Search Console Can Now Track Instagram and TikTok: How to Set It Up

Google rolled out platform properties, a new Search Console property type for creators and publishers who post on Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube, letting you see how those posts perform on Google Search, Discover, and Google News without owning a website at all. It's a genuinely new category of property: every Search Console property before this required verifying ownership of a domain or URL prefix. A platform property verifies ownership of a social account instead, which is why it matters even for small businesses that already have a Search Console property for their site - your website and your Instagram account are now two separate, trackable surfaces.

Which Platforms Are Supported

Four platforms, as of this rollout:

  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • X
  • YouTube

Google announced the feature gradually from early July 2026, with wider availability confirmed later that month. If the option isn't showing up in your account's property list yet, that's expected during a staged rollout rather than a sign you're doing something wrong - see the direct link below.

What Data You Actually Get

Once verified, a platform property shows the same shape of report Search Console has always shown for websites, applied to your social content instead:

  • Clicks and impressions from Google Search, Discover, and Google News specifically (not the platform's own in-app analytics, which is a separate number).
  • The actual search queries people typed that led Google to surface one of your posts.
  • Performance by individual post/video URL, so you can see which specific pieces of content Google is actually surfacing.

This is the first real visibility most creators and small businesses have had into whether their Instagram or TikTok content shows up in Google results at all, as opposed to just performing inside the platform's own feed and search.

How to Add a Platform Property

  1. Go to Search Console - if you already use Search Console for your site, open the property selector in the top-left and click "Add property" instead of starting from the welcome link.
  2. Choose the platform property option and select Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube.
  3. Sign in to the social account when prompted and authorise the connection - this is how ownership is verified, rather than the file-upload or DNS-record methods used for website properties.
  4. Confirm verification. You'll see the new property appear in your property list alongside any website properties you already have.
  5. Repeat separately for each account. Each social profile needs its own platform property; there's no single property that covers multiple accounts on the same platform.

If You Don't See It Yet

Google has said platform properties are rolling out gradually rather than appearing in every account simultaneously. If you don't see the option under "Add property" in your existing Search Console account, go directly to search.google.com/search-console/welcome and start the "Add property" flow from there - some accounts see the option appear through the direct welcome link before it surfaces in the regular property selector. If it's genuinely not there yet, it's a rollout timing issue on Google's side, not a setup mistake, and it's worth checking back periodically rather than assuming your account is excluded.

Why This Is Worth Setting Up Now

For a small business posting on Instagram or TikTok alongside running a website, this closes a real blind spot: until now there was no way to know whether Google was surfacing your social posts in search results at all, only whether people found them by scrolling the platform itself. If a Reel or TikTok is quietly picking up Google Search impressions for a query you didn't expect, that's a signal worth acting on, whether that means doubling down on the topic or making sure your website covers the same query too so both surfaces reinforce each other.
